Aileen Curtin: Getting Current
I relish sharing the joyful journey of yoga with students, faculty and staff at Texas Wesleyan University where I currently work for 9 months of the year and at Sacred Soul Yoga Studio in Hurst. I have practiced yoga at Nava Yoga Studio in St. Petersburg, FL since the studio first opened and really enjoy maintaining my personal practice at Nava Yoga studio as often as I can.
I try to teach yoga intuitively and trust that I can teach something new to students each week-breathing technique, meditation, feeling the pose or just simply being on mat. My students inspire me each week to plan new sequences that will take them to their edge. Every time I teach I feel humbled by the trust students place in me. I work hard to facilitate by walking around the room, teaching off the mat, and doing as many adjustments as I can and offering modifications to poses. No two classes are ever the same and I learn something new from my students each time I teach. I also cherish my own personal yoga practice and learn a lot from other teachers who also inspire and motivate me to go deeper in my own practice.
I earned a bachelor’s degree from National University of Ireland in 1983 and began my teaching career as a Gaelic language immersion teacher for the Department of education. In 1989, through immigration lottery was selected to come to United States. I was an elementary teacher for the Kansas City, Kansas schools. In 1993 I relocated to Texas and taught for Hurst-Euless-Bedford Independent School District. While teaching at H-E-B earned a master’s degree in education from Texas Wesleyan University in 1996 and subsequently a PhD from University of North Texas in 2002.
I have practiced yoga since 2006 and completed 200 hour yoga teaching training through Life Power Yoga in 2013 and 300 hour yoga training with Yoga Forte in 2017.
