8:30 am - 5:30 pmGarden Club of St. Petersburg

With Bonus Classes - see flyer!

The Yoga Sutras, considered to be one of the most revered texts of yoga, is thought to be more than 2,500 years old. Originally these teachings were passed on in the ancient oral traditions, intimately shared from teacher to student. Even today almost every translation of the sutras includes pages and pages of master commentary deemed useful to impart the correct teachings, methods and sacred wisdom necessary to achieve Yoga. Nischala Joy Devi will impart her heart-centered intuitive interpretation of The Yoga Sutras from her book The Secret Power of Yoga.

guruNischala Joy Devi is a divinely feminine perspective of The
Yoga Sutras which offers students an opportunity to partake in the unfathomable sense of peace, emotional and spiritual enlightenment that is our birthright.

Hands on Assisting for Yoga Instructors with Wanda Howe

7:00 amWendy Fit Yoga & Pilates Studio 3438 East Lake Road Suite 19 Palm Harbor Fl 34685
    Cost $35
"Hands On Assisting" Learn how to properly assist yoga students.
Let’s slow down and ask some basic questions about the whole idea of a yoga assist—because offering and receiving great assists depends first on knowing what an assist is. Back in the old days, yoga assists were called corrections. The idea was that the student was doing something wrong and the teacher could manipulate the wrongness away. Later came the word adjustment, which is a little better, conveying that the student is on the right track and some changes are needed.  This workshop is for yoga teachers but we welcome students to join us and learn the benefits of how correct assisting can change your yoga experience.

It will show adjustments, carefully selected stretches and yoga postures to realign the upper body and help develop a stable and resilient core and its importance for maintaining a healthy posture and overall vitality and strength.
All props provided, come to practice in yoga clothing.  All levels of yoga welcome.
The anatomy is presented in a lecture format followed by experiential explorations with progressive yoga stretches and poses.

Life Balance 200-Hour Teacher Training Program

12:30 pmLiving Room Yoga, 8424 4th Street North, Suite F, St. Petersburg, FL 33702

Occupational and Yoga Therapist Stacy Renz, created Life Balance Yoga to mitigate and reverse the physical, spiritual, emotional, and energetic imbalances we all accumulate as we traverse through life.  The philosophy of LRY Life Balance Yoga Therapy is to help students develop awareness in body, mind, breath, and spirit, as well as kindness and compassion toward themselves.  This combination of awareness and compassion allows students to heal and live a more balanced, healthy, and happy life.

Life Balance Yoga gives you the tools you to address imbalances from the perspective of the chakras (energy body), the koshas (layers of being), Ayurveda (balance with herbs, food, activity, and environment), yoga philosophy (principles to live by), and physiology (the physical body).  With its generous practicum opportunities, you will emerge a competent and confident teacher able to create a space for others to find life balance on all levels of being.  Furthermore, the 200-Hour program, emphasizing alignment based asana, Ayurveda, energetic and physical anatomy, and philosophy, lays the groundwork for more advanced study in our established 500-hour program and our 1000-hour yoga therapy certification program (in development).

    Aqua Kriya Yoga Training

8:00 amSafety Harbor Resort & Spa - 105 N Bayshore Dr, Safety Harbor FL 34695

This is a regional training opportunity with Camella Nair, aka Swami Nibhrtananda ATRIC C-IAYT, at the beautiful, historic Safety Harbor Spa & Resort.
By taking yoga into the water, we make it accessible to people who may otherwise never try, and therefore never enjoy the many benefits that yoga can bring. With the aging population in particular, yoga in the water is supportive of the lower joints, helps reduce swelling, and encourages increased ROM. The water actually becomes a variable weight machine that can ramp up ones practice for general fitness, or become a compassionate environment for people who are new to yoga, rehabilitating from injury, or delaying surgery. Don't expect a course that merely translates asanas from land to water. This training explores the reasons why and how yoga poses done in the comfort, stability and support of water can make people's lives more rewarding.

The Doctor From India is a meditative and immersive portrait of the life and work of Dr. Vasant Lad, the holistic health pioneer who first brought the ancient medical practice of Ayurveda from India to the west in the late 1970s. Integrating his gifts as both a healer and a mystic, Dr. Lad has dedicated his life to sharing what is considered the oldest healthcare system on earth in the complex medical landscape of the United States. This is the beautiful and inspiring story of a man who has for decades been quietly at the center of a revolutionary movement to change the way people care for their bodies and their spirits.

Understanding the Basic Alignment in Yoga

12:30 pmWendy Fit Yoga and Pilates Studio 3438 East Lake Road Suite 19 Palm Harbor Fl 34685

Yes, yoga poses must be taught and performed in a way that eliminates the risk for injury. And, yes, the poses should be visually recognizable.
Asana (the physical exercises most folks simply call yoga these days) is not the goal of yoga, it is simply a tool. According to Patanjali, as described in the Yoga Sutras, the only alignment necessary is to be comfortable, steady, and relaxed in asana.

All people have a unique anatomy. No two bodies are the same, we all have different strengths and weaknesses, and our joint structures can vary greatly. So why do we have styles of yoga that have a one-size-fits-all approach to alignment?

Join Wanda for an amazing workshop on the Basic Alignment of the Body beginning at 12:30 pm.

Aham Prema is a mantra meaning "I am divine love." It comes from the Sanskrit, aham, meaning "I," and prema, meaning "love" or "affection." Mantras are repeated silently or aloud for their powerful sound vibrations, which are thought to affect prana (life-force energy) in the body and for their ability to transform or achieve a purpose.

    iRest Yoga Nidra

    Photo of candles.

Annie Okerlin presents iRest Yoga Nidra at The BE!

iRest is a meditation practice based on the ancient tradition of Yoga Nidra and adapted to suit the conditions of modern life. When practiced regularly it can create a strong sense of inner peace and wellbeing, which you can bring to any difficult situation.

iRest Yoga Nidra is a research-based transformative practice of deep relaxation and meditation. This guided meditation is generally practiced lying down or seated comfortably with props.

In 2006 Richard Miller, PhD, of the Integrative Restoration Institute (IRI), developed the protocol and led the initial iRest research at Walter Reed Army Hospital. In June of 2010, Yoga Nidra was endorsed by the US Army Surgeon General and Defense Centers of Excellence as a complementary and alternative medicine (CAM).

    In this workshop you will:

    • hear about the history of iRest
    • learn how iRest supports the nervous system
    • learn the protocol as we use it
    • select a specific topic: heartfelt mission/desire, inner resource, spaciousness, opening the void, etc.
    • Practice (40-55 mins)

1000 Ways to Kiss the Ground: Rediscovering the Sacred Yoga Practice of Namaskar

12:00 pmThe Body Electric Yoga Company

    Photo of 1000 Ways.
The act of ritual prostration is an important component of many of the world's great spiritual systems. Bringing one's body to meet the earth is recognized as a profound technique for the cultivation of devotion, contemplation, humility, health, and ecstatic exaltation. In recent times, the Namaskar form of prostration to the solar archetype has become a ubiquitous component of modern postural yoga classes.

Join John-Allen Gibel for an exploration on the history, anatomy, evolution, and power of the Namaskar, with a particular focus on the yogic variation of the practice as found in the wisdom traditions of Tibet. The Tibetan style of prostration is a sincere gesture of an intention towards enlightenment, and is said to purify negative karma, to cleanse the energetic channels, prana, and power centers of the yogic body, and to effect transcendental insight and healing. It is common among both lay-persons and monastic Tibetans to perform hundreds of thousands (and in some exceptional cases, millions) of prostrations over the course of a lifetime. After we explore theory, we will learn the proper practice, so come prepared to sweat.

Proceeds from this workshop will go to the construction of a new shrine for the Tibetan Buddhist Monastic Community of Drong Ngor, located in Wesley Chapel. More information about Drong Ngor can be found at www.dnjus.org

6:00 pmThe Body Electric Yoga Company: 3015 7th St N, St. Petersburg, FL 33704

    Group performing headstands.
    Learn Headstand
Master one of yoga's most powerful yoga postures. Headstand, often called "King of Asanas". It is best known for its many profound spiritual, physical, and mental benefits. To learn headstand (Sirsasana) safely, it's best practiced stage-by-stage.

    8 Simple Steps
In this workshop you will learn to systematically progress your headstand through 8 simple steps. This gradual approach gives you a strong foundation to hold a headstand steadily and in correct alignment.

Join both Shahar and Jenny Miller for this workshop that is suitable for all levels, including those who are brand new to the headstand or intimidated by being upside down or falling.

Those who already have a headstand practice will learn to hold longer, stronger, and more comfortably, as well as to transition into other more advanced variations of the headstand.

"Sirsasana is really a blessing and nectar. Words will fail to describe it's beneficial results and effects. This is a panacea, a cure-all."
